Each section of the new market is designed to serve a particular purpose and will provide the agricultural community of South Carolina with a venue that is second to none. The Retail/Agribusiness section is designed to be user/pedestrian friendly with 10 foot sidewalks, convenient onsite parking adjacent to each building, and a low country design offering 12 foot wraparound porches and heavy landscaping. This entire section is designed to be pedestrian/customer friendly so that families will be comfortable visiting the market.
The inclusion of an exhibition kitchen, a specialty foods shop, a dedicated children's play area, school bus drop off area, RV Park, on-site restaurants and a 400-seat amphitheater will also provide additional amenities within the market which will assist in drawing traffic to the market.
Wholesale vendors will occupy their own section of the market, keeping truck traffic separate from pedestrian areas. The major vendors that will be present at the market include Senn Brothers, Severt & Sons Produce Co., V.B. Hook & Co., L&N Produce, Ayer & Price Fruit Co. and Raybon Tomato.
SCDA has completed the purchase of 31 acres +/- of property from the developer to accommodate the relocation of SCDA Laboratory facilities, a conference center and construction of Farmers' Sheds, which will be constructed, owned, and operated by SCDA for the benefit of South Carolina Farmers.
The first phase of the new South Carolina State Farmer's Market is scheduled to open in Summer 2010.
